FTP Instructions for Mac using FETCH

Transferring Files To and From Your Home Folder


  1. Dial in to your internet service provider (ISP) to gain access to the internet.
  2. Use FETCH to transfer your files.
    • Host: ftp.ius.edu
    • User ID: ADS/username (for example: ADS/JDOE)
    • Password: IUS Password
      • Passwords are case sensitive
    • Directory: to be placed in your home directory, type "/i/username" (no quotes) where "i" is the first letter of your user name and username is what you typed in for User ID.
  3. Select OK to connect.
  4. You will be placed in your "home" folder that is automatically mapped to the H: drive on you IUS Campus computers (PC/Windows computers only)
    Note :
    • If you leave the Directory field blank you will be placed at the root of the FTP server, which will allow you access other parts of the IUS network where you have rights. Opening the  "i" folder (where "i" is the first letter of your username), then opening the folder with your username will also put you in your "home" folder.
  5. Select the file(s) you wish to transfer.
  6. Before transferring files, select the proper format for transfer (Text, Binary) or use Automatic for the computer's best guess.
  7. Select the GET FILE button to transfer the file(s) from IUS. Select the PUT FILE button to transfer the files(s) to IUS.

Transferring Files To and From Your Web Folder and Group Sites


  1. Dial in to your internet service provider (ISP) to gain access to the internet.
  2. Use FETCH to transfer your files.
    • Host: webftp.ius.edu
    • User ID: ADS/username (for example: ADS/JDOE)
    • Password: IUS Password
      • Passwords are case sensitive
    • Directory: leave blank to be placed in your personal web folder.
      Note :
      • You must already have an existing web folder before you can publish your personal web pages using the WebFTP.IUS.Edu FTP server. To create a web folder run "SpinWeb."
    • To edit a group or department web site :
      • in the Directory field type "/sitename" (no quotes) where "sitename" is the name of the Web site for which you have rights to edit, or
      • FTP to WebFTP.IUS.edu and use the instructions provided above.
  3. Select OK to connect.
  4. You will be placed in your personal web folder.
  5. Select the file(s) you wish to transfer.
  6. Before transferring files, select the proper format for transfer (Text, Binary) or use Automatic for the computers best guess.
  7. Select the GET FILE button to transfer the file(s) from IUS. Select the PUT FILE button to transfer the files(s) to IUS.
