Due to the tax exempt status of Indiana University, personal long distance calls CANNOT be charged to the University via direct dial using your authorization code or university supplied calling card. If it is necessary to place a personal call from the university telephone, it should be billed to your home phone telephone number or to your personal calling card. VIOLATION OF THIS POLICY CONSTITUTES TAX EVASION.
IUS uses authorization codes to place University business long distance calls. Using this authorization code allows you to place a long distance call from your desk, or any phone on campus, and have it billed to your account and specifically to your name. You should review your auth code charges each month to ensure your code has not been compromised.
Please protect this number as you would a credit card number.
Do not post this number on your telephone or in a prominent place in your office.
To place a long distance call:
Dial 16, then your authorization code.
After you get dial tone, Dial 9 1 and the area code and number. If you dial an incorrect authorization code, you will not receive a dial tone to continue your call. Please hang up and try again.
SUVON calls are not affected - 1-800 calls are not affected
If you do not use 16 and your 'auth' code to dial a long distance number in Indiana, you may hear "You are not authorized to make this call.”.
If you do not use 16 and your 'auth' code to dial a long distance number in Indiana and your call goes through, it means the call has been placed through the SUVON network and should be dialed as a SUVON call in the future. The call will go through much quicker if dialed using SUVON.
If you do not use 16 and your 'auth' code to dial a number outside of Indiana, you will hear a fast busy instead of a completed call. If you place the call again using your 'auth' code and you continue to get a fast busy, please call telephone services at extension 2411.
Hint- If you think you will have a hard time remembering your code, you can change your voice mail passcode (user options (8) and P (7) ) to be the same as your 'auth' code.
